The British Origin of Argentine Sports
After one of
the usual matches in Brittain's stay, an attempt was made to form a club.
According to what was published by the British Packet newspaper on November 5,
1831, a cricket match was held at the Church of Pilar in Recoleta in which
there was a flag that read "Buenos Aires Cricket Club."
WHAT`S NEW IN PSL 2018 AND NEW PLAYERS IN PESHAWAR ZALMI 2018 That was the
germ for the current Buenos Aires Cricket Club was founded, which many years
after his foundation added Rugby in his name. It is taken as the date of birth
on December 8, 1864, although it is believed that the club existed from before.
At that time there were 60 active members, so it is interpreted that it was
already standing from before, according to the club's official website . The
exact date is difficult to confirm because many historical documents were lost.
This club
was installed in the forests of Palermo, where today is the Planetarium. He
occupied that space until President Juan Domingo Perón decided not to renew the
rental of the land. From there he began a journey looking for a fixed place.
With the
birth of the BACC, in the rest of Argentina cricket clubs begin to appear, both
in the interior and in the suburbs. In this sense, stood out Cordoba, Rosario,
Lomas de Zamora, Quilmes and Flores, which at that time did not belong to the
city of Buenos Aires.
Those first
clubs were meeting places reserved for members of the British community. These
places were still standing thanks to the fact that their partners had a very
good economic pass and, in addition, "there was some support from the
consulate to solve the cultural activity", explains Victor Raffo, author
of the book The British Origin of Argentine Sports .
