Cricket competitions in Argentina
Almost 200
years after his arrival in Argentina, cricket at the local level has five
competitions. The First and Second Division competitions are accompanied by the
Robin Stuart Shield, reserved for the upper category teams, the Saturday
Champions, for the teams within the promotion tournament, and the Max
Challenge, a championship that made its debut in 2005 and that has the
participation of the winners and runners-up of Saturday Champions and Robin
Stuart Shield. The internal season covers from mid-November and ends at the
beginning of March.
Currently,
the ACA activity is not only limited to organizing championships and carrying
out a development program, but also has the corresponding national teams, who
participate in both youth and senior competitions, both male and female, that
has begun to play a few years ago.
Argentina,
which debuted officially in 1868 against Uruguay, is the maximum power in the
South American context. Since the creation of the continental tournament in
1995, the albicelestes only once did not achieve the title. It was in 2004 in
Chile when Guyana became champion and the Argentines were third.
Outside of
South America, Argentina is not among the powers like Australia, England,
Pakistan or India. He never participated in a World Cup and his only
appearances in championships organized by the ICC were in 7 of the 8 editions
of the ICC Trophy , a tournament reserved for the so-called emerging countries.
In this contest, which has been contested since 1979, the Argentine team did
not have significant participation.
