Argentine Cricket Association
The BACC
quickly became the favorite meeting place of the subjects of His Gracious
Majesty. During the summer, the playing field was used for cricket, while for
the rest of the year it was rented for athletics competitions or informal
meetings of football and rugby, sports that at that time still could not
establish a fixed rule.
Although
there were many clubs, Argentines did not find this activity attractive. This
situation changed in 1877, when the Caballito College Cricket Club was founded,
made up entirely of criollos.
Given the
proliferation of teams, in the 1897/1898 season the first tournament that was
held by Lomas Athletic was organized . The creation of a competition was the
first step towards an organization at a national level, a fact that was
materialized only in 1913 with the founding of the Argentine Cricket
Association (ACA) .
Until the
mid-40s, cricket lived its golden age because players came from the English
league and this allowed the level of play to increase and to come very close to
that practiced in England. With the beginning of World War II, the quality of
the game declined as many British residents in Argentina enrolled in the army
of their country.
